Mrs. Mary Helen Phillips Hobbs

Mrs. Mary Helen Phillips Hobbs, age 87, Forrest City, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 6, 2017. Mrs. Hobbs was born on March 9, 1930, in Round Pond, AR, the daughter of Allen Mae and Mary Jane Phillips. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 58 years, Rush F. Hobbs, two brothers, Cecil Phillips and Odis Phillips, and three sisters, Ruth Phillips Cothern, Gladys Phillips Palmer Gill, and Pearl Phillips Bizzell Willcutt. She was also preceded in death by a very special niece who was raised as a little sister, Donna Phillips Watson Tarbutton. Mrs. Mary Helen is survived by two sons, Rush F. Hobbs, Jr. and wife, Laura, of Russellville, AR and Thurman A. Hobbs and wife, Donna, of Maumelle, AR. She is also survived by her daughter, Pamela Hobbs Jones and husband, Larry, of Forrest City, with whom she lived. Also surviving Mrs. Hobbs are her three grand-daughters, Melissa Jones Wallace and husband, Shannon, of Carterville, IL, Lindsey Jones Morris and husband, Danny, of Jonesboro, AR, and Hallie Hobbs of Maumelle, AR. Three precious great-grand-children, Taylor and Tanner Wallace of Carterville, IL, and Melaina Morris of Jonesboro, AR, added much happiness to her life. Mrs. Hobbs’s greatest joy on this earth was serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at Ridgewood Baptist Church (formerly Second Baptist Church) where she was a charter member. Some of her most cherished memories were with the “Jolly Elders” where she served many years as president. Those who knew Mrs. Mary Helen knew that her life theme was, “If ya ain’t got love, ya ain’t got nothing!!!” and her motto was “One Day at a Time.” She loved her Lord, and she loved people. Services for Mrs. Mary Helen will be held Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday night, Aug. 9, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be made to Ridgewood Baptist Church, P.O. Box 785, Forrest City, AR 72336.
