Martha Elizabeth Sweet Gandy

Martha Elizabeth Sweet Gandy died from complications of Alzhemimer's disease on April 8, 2019. She was born August 26, 1936, the eldest child to the late Webb and Mary Greene Sweet. Mrs. Gandy is survived by her husband of 66 years, O. J. Gandy, Jr., son Jay Gandy and wife Lisa, and daughter, Ree Gandy Routon, all of Little Rock, five grandchildren; Stephen Routon (Julie), David Routon (Kristen), Elizabeth Gandy Frazier (Ryan), Kathryn Gandy and Gregory Gandy, and four great-grandchildren; Jackson Routon, Reed Routon, Will Routon and Mary Jane Routon. In addition, she is survived by one brother, Billy Sweet of Forrest City, and a sister, Margie Walker of Birmingham, Alabama, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Sweet in 2015. Mrs. Gandy was a devoted homemaker and mother who possessed extraordinary talents with her knitting and sewing, but her passion was her love of Tennessee Walking Horses, which she rode and showed from the age of four until seventy. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church and a life member of the Forrest City Junior Auxillary. Services for Mrs. Gandy will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 10:00 A.M., Friday, with burial in Forrest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening, 6:00 till 8:00 P.M., at Stevens Funeral Home with Stevens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
