September 19, 1927 - August 19, 2021
Jeanne Bannon Sossaman, 93, of Spring, Texas passed away on August 19, 2021, after an extended illness. She was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on September 19, 1927, to Claude R. and Mae Loftin Bannon, the third of six Bannon children. Jeanne married her husband John B. Sossaman in Forrest City, Arkansas on January 22, 1952, and they eventually moved to Corpus Christi, Texas the following year. She worked as a bookkeeper for American Smelting and Refining Company in Corpus until she retired in 1965, when she gave birth to her only child, Mark Sossaman. Jeanne developed a passion for designing and sewing hand-stitched Christmas ornaments, and she built a loyal following of customers that turned into long-lasting friendships. She attended 2-day craft shows in both Robstown and Corpus, always knowing that she would basically sell out of her ornament inventory in the first couple hours of the first day. Jeanne was an active gardener and truly did have a “green thumb.” She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing family recipes, but her favorites were simple things like vanilla ice cream and ice-cold Dr. Pepper. She was also active in Grace United Methodist Church in Corpus, as a member of the Friendship Sunday School class, until she and John moved to Spring in 2002 to be closer to Mark and his wife Karen. While Jeanne was a wonderful wife and mother, her life became complete in 2004, when she became a doting grandmother to Lauren Elizabeth Sossaman. “Ma” was always a willing “babysitter” when needed and could often be found attending Lauren’s various school and sporting events. No conversation with Jeanne would end before she told you all about what Lauren had going on! Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, sister Ida Womack, and brothers, Ed Bannon and Claude Bannon. Jeanne is survived by her beloved son, Mark, his wife Karen, and her granddaughter Lauren. She is also survived by brothers, Chuck Bannon and Joe Bannon, as well as many friends. She will be missed by all that knew her! A private family Graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, in Forrest City, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to: Spring Woodlands Ministries (in memory of Jeanne Sossaman) Attn: Debbie McCabe 2129 FM 2920 Suite 190-166 Spring, Texas 77388 (Donations can also be made online at .https:/www.springwoodlandsministries.org/donate . The family would also like to thank and acknowledge the staff of Keepsake Gardens Memory Care at Reunion Court of The Woodlands and Heart to Heart Hospice for the loving care Jeanne received over the last couple of years.
