Eloise 'Possum' Johnson

Eloise “Possum' Johnson, age 82, of Colt, died Monday, September 6, 2021, at the St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro. She had been in poor health for the past several years. Ms. Johnson was born April 21, 1939, in Forrest City, and was the daughter of Tom Johnson and Irene McDaniel Johnson. She lived in St. Francis County all of her life and enjoyed crossword puzzles, her flowers, and especially loved her cat, Baby. She was a feisty, free spirited woman. In her earlier years she worked as a bouncer at the local nightclubs. She was well known and never met a stranger. She loved cooking and had been known to blow up a few microwaves in her time. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ms. Johnson is survived by one brother, James Franklin 'Butch' Johnson of Augusta, Arkansas, three grandsons; Micheal Mellow, Brandon Scalf, and wife, Rebecca, and Randall Lipe, and six great-grandchildren; Johnathan Scalf, Reighlynn Varner, Conner Mellow, McKinley Mellow, Bentley Scalf, and Hudson Reyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Tommy Johnson and Ralph 'Pete' Johnson, and one daughter, Teddy Chapman. Services will be held Graveside, 11:00 A.M., Friday, at the Lindsey Cemetery in Forrest City. Visitation will be Friday, 10:00 A.M., at Stevens Funeral Home, with Stevens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. You may log on to stevensfuneralhome.net for the online registry.
