Tommy Emery 'Red' Hollowell

Mr. Tommy Emery 'Red' Hollowell, peacefully departed this life on February 3, 2019, a Sunday. How appropriate. To the very end his great desire was to be able to go back to church. He loved it so and was loved and respected for his Christian integrity by his church, his family, co-workers, the cattle industry and the many other special friends made during his lifetime. Born July 5, 1935, to Alma Williams and Tom Hollowell in Forrest City, Red spent his entire 83 years in this area wearing many hats. From newspaper boy to All-State basketball player in high school to mayor of Madison. As mayor, he built and fully equipped the city hall building, fire department and jail, installed city sewage systems with a treatment plant, paved streets, etc. He reactivated and was very active in the East Arkansas Cattlemen's Association and was a lifetime member of Beefmaster Breeders Universal. He was so proud of his prize-winning Beefmaster cattle and hated to give them up when he became unable to care for them. No one could have loved his family more. The void left by the death of son, Glenn, in 1980, was filled with son Mike's four children and eight grandchildren; great nieces and nephew, and three godchildren. Red cherished the time spent with them all. Affectionately called Poppy and Uncle Red, their bond with him was extremely strong and beautiful to behold. Red never met a stranger and talking with people was a passion. He loved it. His joy was to seek out people with a need and help them incognito. To this day, only those people and God know who they are. Travel was another passion. Red and Viola, his wife of 64 years, were blessed to be able to travel extensively throughout Mexico, the U.S., Canada and Alaska in their motorhome. He never missed an opportunity to meet and talk to people. Much living can be done in 83 years. Thanks to God for Red's happy, blessed and productive life. The family requests memorials be made to the Madison Fist Baptist Church, P.O. Box 89, Madison, Ar. 72359. Alzeheimer's Association, 1712 Pioneer Ave., Sute 201, Cheyenne, WY 82001 or the Arkansas Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Place, Little Rock, Ar. 72202.
