Richard Threat

Richard Threat, age 69, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022, in the hospital in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. Richard was born Dec. 31, 1952, in Dumas, Texas to parents George A. and Margaret Ruth (Byrd) Threat. A graduate of Dumas High School with a six-year scholarship for Hardin Simmons University in Texas, Richard completed his law enforcement BA in four years at age 21. He worked with the DEA for a short time in Houston but shortly after sought out new adventures. Following many family members' footsteps, he joined the U.S. Army and served as an Air Traffic Controller. When he returned to Dallas, he attended the University of North Texas in Denton earning a Business Technology BA. He worked for Texas Instruments, Mobil Oil, and many other techs and think-tank-focused companies throughout Texas. In 1982, Richard married Vicki in Plano, Texas. Their son, Matthew was born in 1988. Richard was a family man with great intellect, strength, love, and an ever-present drive to protect those around him. His curiosity about the world shined throughout his life, inspiring him to do things in his youth like read an entire local library’s books. Yet, on the other hand, his sense of adventure inspired him to explore hobbies like skydiving in Dumas. Not unique to his early years, Richard lived out his unique blend of gentle strength throughout his life. A man of great character, who was always there for those that needed him, even comforting, and hugging his loved ones even in his final days. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, George & Ruth Threat; sisters, Yvonne "Bonnie" Anglin, and Joni Wallace; and three nephews. Surviving him are his son, Matthew Threat of Chicago; his siblings, Gregory Threat of Florida, Barbara Threat Perry of Nebraska, and Joyce Nixon of Texas; many loving uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and good friend, Donna Waldrop. Services for Mr. Threat will be held at Steven's Funeral Home, Forrest City, Arkansas. Visitation is 6-8 PM on Friday, August 26, and Funeral Service in the Steven's Chapel at 11 AM on Saturday, August 27. Burial Service will be immediately following at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City, Arkansas.
