August 30, 1923 - August 29, 2021
Lily Seid Chu, age 97, of Forrest City, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021, at her daughter's home, surrounded by her loving family. Lily Seid was born August 30, 1923, in Portland Oregon, and was the eldest daughter of Fook Yee Seid and Lim Choy Lum Seid. She and Foon 'Frank' Chu married December 3, 1940, enjoying life together for more than seventy-eight years, when he passed away in 2019. For more than fifty years, Lily and Frank worked together at Standard Jewelers. She considered her customers as friends, remembering their birthdays and their special occasions. She cared about them just as she cared about her family. She loved learning and trading tips on health, fitness, and gardening. She was an organic gardener before organic gardening became popular. Her green thumb yielded bountiful harvests which she loved sharing with friends and family. Her focus on fitness led her to join P.A.C.E., a senior citizen exercise class. When the state no longer funded the program, she along with others took turns leading the exercise so that the program could remain available to the community. She continued to lead the class through her early 90's. Lily and her family including her grandchildren, would take annual vacations. She delighted in meeting people from different places she visited and learning about their culture. The more than twenty-five family trips took her to all parts of the United States and other parts of the world including Iceland, Europe, Asia, and Canada. She was an avid “chronicler” keeping detailed records of all her travels and special events. She is survived by five daughters; Sonya Chu (Ben, deceased) Mau, Susan Chu (Dennis) Chow, Sandra Chu (Sam) Chow, Edith Chu, Carol Chu, three grandchildren; Matthew Chow, Meredith Chow, and Christopher Chow, four great-grandchildren; Brandon Chow, Preston Chow, Avery Chow and Abigail Chow, and one sister, Annie Seid Chu. She was preceded in death by three siblings; June Seid, Jane Seid Wong, and Bing Seid. We celebrate our memories of a woman who sacrificed unselfishly, shared her love and appreciation to others. Her incredible curiosity and a zest for life will always be remembered by her family and friends. Due to Covid, services for Mrs. Chu will be private. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Mayo Clinic in support of amyloidosis research. Please indicate “Lily Chu for amyloidosis research” and mail to Mayo Clinic, Department of Development, 200 First SW, Rochester, MN., 55905.
